NIPPLE PIERCING - WHAT IT IS?
Body piercing is a form of body art.
This form of body art is very
popular during last few decades and
getting more and more popular in the
mainstream Western Culture. We can
notice lots of celebrities with body
piercing in the today's fashion
scenario.

person should have a pierced hole in
the particular part of his/her body.
Usually people get pierced and worn

shape and enhance the beauty of the
parts of their body and get an
attraction. Most of the people are
ready to ignore the pain due to
piercing to get it.

body art form of modern days, but

old tradition. We can find various

to the time of the Roman Empire. It
seems that Roman centurions pierced

strength as well as virility and to
attaching cloaks. It also signifies
the bonding with the army .It was
told that even Julius Caesar have
pierced nipples to show his strength
and identification with his men. But
there is no authentic proof to
support this rumors.
There was a myth among the American
and British sailors associated with
piercing. They were getting pierced
as an initiation for having crossed
an important latitude or longitude.
There is folklore that "sailors with
pierced nipples adding links for
each time the sailor crossed the
equator". Anyway it was a lesser
known piercing.
There is a broader Western history
associated with female nipple
piercing. We came to know from
Eduard Fuch's writings, that the
Court of Queen Isabella of Bavaria
was known for probable earliest
practice of nipple piercing.
According to his version "Queen
Isabella...introduced the 'garments
of the grand neckline', where the
dress was open to the navel. This
fashion eventually lead to the
application of rouge to freely
displayed nipples (those 'little
apples of paradise'), to placing
diamond-studded rings or small caps
on them, even piercing and passing
gold chains through them decorated
with diamonds, possibly to
demonstrate the youth resilience of
the bosom".
We also came to know from his
writings that, "In the late 1890s,
the 'bosom ring' came into fashion
briefly and sold in expensive
Parisian jewelry shops. These 'anneaux
de sein, were inserted through the
nipple, and some woman wore one on
either side linked with a delicate
chain. The rings enlarged the breast
and keep them in a state of constant
excitation. This provocative
combination was rare."
In the Victorian period, ladies were
fascinated to nipple piercing
jewelry because it helps to make
their nipples more prominent through
tight bodies.
FACTS OF MODERN DAYS NIPPLE PIERCING
There are so many interesting
histories related to nipple
piercing. Nipple piercing gets
popular with time and is also
current trend. Though sometimes it
disappeared from the fashion
scenario in its long journey. Since
the 1890s, upper class men and women
of European and American societies
hold their interest in nipple
piercing. Now it is an universal
trend. If we held a survey, we can

NIPPLE PIERCING ISSUES AND
PROBLEMS
There are little risks to get a
nipple piercing. There is no
evidence about the rumor of the
cancer or any serious problem
because of nipple piercing.
Sometimes nipple piercing can cause
of lactation. It also may block a
milk duct, trapping an infection
inside the breast. All of these need
immediate medical attention. It is
also important to take a look that
jewelry should not go through the
fatty tissue of the areola in time
of piercing to avoid their problems.
Migration and breast-feeding are
another anxiety for females.
Possibility of migration can be
reduced with extra care and using
proper jewelry. Nipple piercing has
no effect in breast-feeding and the
production of milk does not effected
because of the piercing.
To avoid infection or any problem,
the expert suggest wearing a sport
or jog bra for females and avoiding
contact with the sex partner during
the healing period.
Usually nipple piercing heals
without any problems within 6-10
weeks. Sometimes it takes longer
time. A person with new piercing
should wash the area twice or thrice
daily with an anti bacterial soap.

piercing. Surgical steel is the best
metal for nipple jewelry. Nipples
can be pierced with barbells, rings
or any jewelry. But the barbells or
D-rings are far better because they

14 gauge or larger in men and 12
gauge and larger in women. If the
pierce has done by ring, it should
be larger enough in diameter.
