Seeds Jewelry

Seeds from various plants are not only sturdy and pretty with deep colors, but also have medicinal properties and are worn not only as jewelry but also for health reasons. Some are used as prayer beads.

seeds jewelryRudraksha beads got from Elaeo gnenitrus is mostly used as prayer beads. Some just wear one as a pendant since it is considered to calm the heart. Dark brown to light brown, these round seeds are quite solid. These seeds are priced depending on the number of mouth they sport. Ones which have only five mouths are very expensive and considered having divine powers. Earrings, necklaces and bracelets can be made from these seeds since various sizes are got.
The Sandbox tree has many circular seeds with crescent shaped sections. Each section is shaped like half moon and is used to make earrings, bracelets and pendants.

Polished coconut endocacy is made into earrings, bangles, bracelets and pendants. It is hard and durable.  The angularly shaped seeds of the Juniper berries and Soap berries are made into jewelry. They grow in Mexico and USA. The black marble shaped seed of the Soap berry is called Black pearl.

The Native Americans have been using the bright red Mescal seeds as necklaces for a long time. Highly toxic in nature, they are used in Rain dance by them. The Sea beans found in Mexico and Central America has a multi layered appearance and used for jewelry.

The Wild Tamarind with its shiny black brownish seeds, hard and waxy in appearance is used to make accessories like belts. While the 'koo' seeds in Hawaii which looks like the tamarind seeds are also used.
While the Datura, considered poisonous, produces lots of spiny seeds with irregular shape. These seeds are harnessed into jewelry making. Necklace is the most common use.

Napo River Rain Forest in Ecuador produces palm trees which have seeds that have the shape of a star etched naturally on them and look attractive as jewelry.

Sea Hearts have beans that produce seed that look like wooden hearts. Make for perfect Valentine gift.

Seeds need to be protected from infestation of insects like the moth or the weevil. They should be preserved in air tight containers when not in use.
